Neuropsychological detours:  What are they and how do they shape our perspectives of brain/behavior relationships?

Abstract

Individual and environmental factors will be presented as contextual considerations in the clinical practice of neuropsychology and applications in biomedical research.  Common myths and dogmas will be explored across clinical conditions, with several common themes identified, including biology’s dependence on the environment as well, the artificial nature of commonly held dichotomies, as well as the contextual nature of illness-related prognoses and outcomes.

Learning objectives:  Delegates will be able to:

1. Identify common dogmas in the biomedical sciences, specifically relevant in neuropsychology.

2. Identify potent resilience factors across clinical conditions.

3. Identify at least one way the framework presented translates to the delegtate’s own clinical or research practice.

Level: Basic through experienced. Sll levels of professional experience will be able to glean content that will be relevant to their specialty area of clinical and/or research focus.
